I always tell couples who inquire about photography that the most important vendor they will hire is a photographer. Besides the photography style- which is important- a photographer IS the third wheel on a wedding day. We are there through the entire day so it is important to choose a person for whom you are completely comfortable.
When I first spoke on the phone with Shawn and Jessi, I felt an immediate connection. They are so open and loving – even on the first encounter. Yet I wanted to make sure I was a good fit for their style. I told them I wasn’t the photographer for them if they wanted a “fun” photographer. I tend to take my job too seriously at times… I like to make sure everything goes smoothly. I have lists. A lot of lists. I can be intense. I’m not the type of person to photoshop a dinosaur into an image as the wedding party runs away.
Ah… but Shawn and Jessi are the exact kind of couple who know how to gently push people out of their comfort zone. They embrace people where they are at… but also encourage them to infuse some fun into the day. They love lists too… especially Shawn. They speak my language. With some added fun.
They are the kind of people who completely understand when I say I am a Pisces trapped in a Capricorn-rising persona. They know people. They don’t do small talk. They dive deep. They value connection. They are my people.
All this to say -this downtown Raleigh engagement session was the epitome of a good time. It was so lovely to see how Shawn and Jessi love one another. They are kind and patient and gentle with one another. They laugh often. You can tell they understand each other even before they speak their thoughts. It’s the kind of love you know will last.
I am so excited for the wedding in a week. Partly because I love Shawn and Jessi… but also because Elmo, their adorable puppy, IS the star of the show. Who doesn’t love Elmo? And he has his own signature drink. Stay tuned on IG to find out what it is!!
